Centerburg Trojans Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 13-9 loss to Berne Union on Thursday. Berne Union scored on a groundout by Moore in the first inning, a single by Berstler in the second inning, a sacrifice fly by Moore in the second inning, and a double by Heilman in the second inning.
Despite the loss, Centerburg Trojans Varsity did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Berne Union had 12 hits on the way to victory.
Berne Union pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Berstler singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, Moore’s sac fly scored one run for Berne Union, and Heilman doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Moore got the win for Berne Union. He lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out five. Hurst threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Joe Tepper took the loss for Centerburg Trojans Varsity . He allowed four hits and six runs over two innings, striking out one.
Centerburg Trojans Varsity racked up nine hits on the day. Dalton Hall, Joel Rings, and Bobby Zendarsky each racked up multiple hits for Centerburg Trojans Varsity . Zendarsky, Rings, and Hall each collected two hits to lead Centerburg Trojans Varsity .
Berne Union scattered 12 hits in the game. Berstler, Moore, Migon, Winkler, Dickerson, and Heilman all collected multiple hits for Berne Union.
